Karen Tongson

Karen Tongson is a widely known and esteemed advocate for LGBTQ+ issues. Karen is the author of Relocations: Queer Suburban Imaginaries, Why Karen Carpenter Matters and Normporn. In 2019, she received the prestigious Lambda Literary Jeanne Córdova Award for her body of work in Lesbian/Queer Nonfiction. She is Professor of English, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and American Studies & Ethnicity at USC, and Chair of the Gender & Sexuality Studies Department. She is married to media scholar and TV critic Sarah Kessler.

Karen has publicly discussed Generation Jones multiple times, like here in November 2022: “But also, as many have pointed out, the demographic breakdown lumps in Generation Jones (born between 1955-1965), who are an entirely different, late-boomer group. I have more to say about them in my thirtysomething chapter in the Normporn book, but in short, it makes a diff.”
